Kinder Konfidence

Kindergarten Konfidence is a set of activities to do with your kid in their first year of school

Writing your name down

TODAY'S PLAY: Get messy encouraging a better understanding of the ABCs with playful writing and singing.

Grab a bottle of lotion and a tray or an area you do not mind getting a little dirty. Ask your child to squish out the lotion with you and think of letters they want to draw. Ask them to spread the lotion all around.

Sing the ABCs song and talk them through how you are going to make the letter A with your finger. "Let's draw the letter A. First a line down, then another line down, and then a line across. The letter A!" Have your child write the letter A next to yours or below it.

Continue on with the rest of the letters. You can build on this activity by asking for words that start with the letter you are practicing writing!

Why This Matters

For the love of reading

Research shows that making print references while reading with your child strengthens their literacy skills. So, the next time you read with your child try to make print references by "pointing out letters and words on the pages, showing capital letters, and showing how you read from left to right and top to bottom on the page."
